Are Mushrooms Safe to Use?

Functional & Medicinal Mushrooms: Functional mushrooms like Reishi, Lion’s Mane, and Cordyceps are generally safe for daily use and provide health benefits without psychoactive effects. They support immunity, cognition, and stress relief and are considered low-risk for toxicity and side effects when sourced from reputable brands.  However, large doses can cause minor digestive issues, and people with certain conditions (like those on blood thinners or with blood sugar concerns) should consult a doctor first

We recommend to seek out "fruiting body only" supplements that have organic certification for maximum safety and health benefits.

What about Psychedelic "Magic" Mushrooms?

Psilocybin “magic” mushrooms are generally considered low-risk for toxicity and addiction when used responsibly by healthy adults. However, there are essential safety considerations:

  • Set & Setting: Safe, comfortable surroundings and a positive mindset are key to a safe experience.
  • Dosage & Intensity: Start with a low dose, (0.1 - 0.9g dried grams for beginners).  Psilocybin can cause intense experiences, so research, physical and mental preparation is strongly recommended.
  • Mental Health: Those with mental health conditions, like schizophrenia or severe anxiety, should consult a healthcare provider first, as psilocybin may cause severe complications and intensify negative symptoms.
  • Avoid Mixing:  Avoid mixing mushrooms with other mind-altering substances, recreational or prescription.  People on SSRIs should be especially careful, as combining psilocybin with these medications can risk Serotonin Syndrome. Always discuss potential interactions with your doctor.
  • Legal Status: While "legal" in Colorado, psilocybin is still classified as a Schedule I substance federally and cannot be transported across state lines.

Being informed and prepared can make all the difference in having a safe, positive experience.
